Amy

First time I saw Amy in Camden was outside the Odeon Parkway, she was wearing her trademark silk ‘Pink Ladies’ jacket looking unbelievably cool, whether you knew who she was or not you’d stop and look. She was pretty unknown at the time but I’d heard her sing a few months before on some forgettable Channel4 late night arts programme and she blew me away, I was half asleep at the time but frantically scrambled around looking for a scrap of paper to note down her name. I pestered everyone I knew to go out and buy Frank, a local girl with a voice like something from another planet, I was hooked.
Then, along came Back to Black just to clear up any questions as to whether we were witnessing genius or not. With all that went on I still held out hope that she’d reach eccentric big-haired old lady wandering around NW1 status. To say she’ll be missed is an understatement.
